Overview

Whether its booking for a birthday, bucks or just to get barreled and have a few Bintings & go fishing, now is the time to get your crew together and sail full steam ahead into a Mentawai surf trip of a lifetime, aboard the 52ft wave hunting machine “Switchfoot” with World Surfaris. The Mentawai Islands, situated 100 miles off West Sumatra, Indonesia, has an abundance of perfect, pumping, uncrowded waves to be surfed. Our trips are limited to 10 passengers maximum, so if you are thinking about your Mentawai surfing adventure and you want to do it in style and comfort, then SWITCHFOOT has you covered.

Vessel

Switchfoot is a high-end charter vessel built with comfort and safety in mind. She is capable of covering great distances and have you surfing as many different waves as possible depending on the prevailing conditions. With a beam of 7.1 meters, there is plenty of space to move around on deck. There is also a spacious air-conditioned saloon/dining area for downtime to relax after a big day of perfect waves and barrels.

To maximize surf time we aim to sail at night or we anchor up in a safe calm anchorage close to where we may surf the following morning.

We will have you on the break at first light every day. If we decide to surf elsewhere or the conditions change then she is capable of getting you to the next break quickly depending on conditions.

ACCOMMODATION

Switchfoot has ample deck space, is fully air conditioned throughout and is capable of sleeping 10 PAX in comfortable cabins with 2 bunks in each. Each bunk has a fan and a reading light. There are two toilets/bathrooms, fully equipped galley leading onto a large deck/bar and large restaurant style eating area.

The saloon (communal area) also features a large flat screen TV and hard drive extension for playing movies during the calm days or as we steam between breaks.

Switchfoot also has a brand new bluetooth stereo system on board to crank the tunes from the channel to take-off.

MEALS

YOU WILL BE EATING LIKE A KING!

On Switchfoot, meals will consist of Indonesian and Western cuisine. All are cooked by our experienced charter boat chef, Erik Wau, using the highest quality ingredients available. This includes fresh fish, chicken, imported steak, and curries, etc. The menu consists of an extensive range of healthy dishes. If you have any specific food requirements, these can be catered for. Please advise us when booking your charter on Switchfoot.

There are no set times for meals, so you will never miss out if you're surfing.

You will be eating like a king, as well as getting the waves of your life.

BREAKFAST

Early Breakfast will consist of fresh fruit, cereal, bread, coffee, tea & juices. Hot breakfast / brunch; bacon, eggs, pancakes, jaffles and more.

LUNCH & DINNER

For lunch & dinner you can expect anything from; Imported steaks, chicken currys, burgers, nasi goreng, fish tacos, fajitas, chicken satay to fish and chips or mie sop, a’la Switchfoot.

BEER O’CLOCK

Beers, snacks, sashimi, crackers, cheese, nuts.

SURF

The Mentawai Islands are a chain of about seventy islands and islets off the western coast of Sumatra in Indonesia. The power of the southern Indian Ocean storms are turned by the prevailing sea trades towards these amazing islands and amplified. The result is that the surf is remarkably consistent and of unsurpassed quality. During the southern hemisphere winter (late April to early November) the Indian Ocean is an over-active groundswell machine.

The quality and consistency of the waves in the Mentawai’s Islands is well known, even though several charter boats are operating in the area there are still plenty of empty waves to be had. If you're looking for an adventure of sailing the ocean and surfing a variety of different breaks that land camps can’t offer then Switchfoot is for you. We will always go the extra mile to find uncrowded waves.

SURF GUIDE

Jason Quinn, self proclaimed Indo junky has had over 20 years experience surfing and guiding in Indonesia and most of that has been in the in the Mentawai’s. Owner and operator of Switchfoot Jason is highly respected for his knowledge of the Mentawai waves and takes great pride in finding the best waves for his guests. A barrel junky, Jason is always on the pulse to find the best waves possible and knows where and when to find the hidden gems away from the crowds. Jason is a huge reason why Switchfoot has become so popular so quickly.

Onboard Pro Photographer - Mike Egan

Have your trip captured in high quality photos and video. Australian Lensman, Mike Egan has been shooting Surf Photography and Video for the last 8 years and comes equipped with over 30k’s worth of high end cameras, water-housings and drones to get photos and video from all angles of you scoring epic waves & times in and out of the water.

Every second night he will be running fully edited slideshows and clips of the footage captured from previous days sessions on the big screen after dinner.

By the end of the trip you will be taking home on a USB around 100-300 photos plus a stack of video too.
