    THE WAVES

    Surf Points - Nias-Main Break

The Nias Islands of Indonesia are one of the most consistent surfing travel destinations in the world. Located by front door of Nias surf camp-access. The perfect right hander at Sorake bay on the island of Nias was the first world class wave discovered in the Sumatra region. Nias was first surfed in 1975,by Aussie surfers.

The APRIL 28th EARTHQUAKE has blessed Nias region, raising the hide tide mark and IMPROVING wave quality barrel,as the waves pick-up any swell size and surfable on all Tides!

It's broad exposure towards the vast, southern Indian Ocean provides these majestic islands with remarkable consistency and quality year round. Our goal is to provide the average surfer the opportunity to score the best waves of their lives. Surf Nias has the experience and local knowledge to get you to the best possible waves as quickly as possible and in complete safety.

    Indicator

The indicator it just above Main break of Nias, also goes off on its day, as you can see in the right side from lounge of the camp. Indicator as "a formidable opponent to your health, safety, and well-being" - and that certainly isn't far off shallow reef. The wave grinds down a section of reef, At low tide forget it, unless you choose to surf the outside section, which can occasionally offer some alternative on a north west wind. At high tide though and on the right swell, Indicator can offer perhaps some of the thickest, fast and hollowest tubes in the wold.

    Secret right-hander - Sobatu.

Sobatu is a thick, barreling right punctuated by a shifting line-up. Sobatu is a sizable Right-hander that is known as one of the "big wave" spots in the Nias island. Located bit north from as Nias point, the Distance from surf camp around a 20 minutes walk in to the bay or a 15 minute Boat ride.

It has a very large playing field and a few different take-off options including a few rights when it is small - but watch out for the paddle back out! Sobatu isn't known as a barreling wave unless it has some serious size - if big enough it will look more like Hawaii. When it looks like that Nias point is a much better option.

The ideal size to surf Sobatu when small Nias, is head-high to double overhead, in any medium swell size, getting caught inside is a certainty.
